Shirley Ann Doyle (nee Barto), age 83 of Fallston, MD, beloved wife of Richard W. Doyle Sr., went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2021. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family. Born in Barnettstown, PA she was the eighth child of seventeen children of the late Roy and Emma (Shultz) Barto. Shirley was the adored mother of six children, Jennifer Staton of Bel Air, Debbie Shope (Walter) of Denver, CO, Susan Foard (Bill) of Jarrettsville, Elizabeth Mink (Michael) of Fallston, Richard Doyle Jr. (Joanne) of Mt. Airy, and Stephen Doyle (Jamie) of Bel Air.
She was the cherished grandmother of Rachel Staton, Lauren Coale, Stacy Staton, Drew Shope (Blythe Pollard), Rebekah Locken (Reese), Ben Foard, Emily Wojcik (Daniel), Charlie Foard, Rob Foard (Katie), Joshua Mink, Shelby Baynes (Joshua), Bryan Doyle, Kerri Doyle, Kevin Doyle, Erin Doyle and Matthew Doyle. She was the dearly loved great grandmother to 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by seven of her brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Klotzbeecher.
Shirley was an office manager at GBMC for Dr. Grumbine for over 20 years. She was the family’s medical expert. She had many hobbies through the years, including playing tennis, swimming, reading novels and listening to music. She was a longtime member of the Fallston Pool. Shirley also enjoyed playing cards and board games with her family. She was an active member at the Fallston Senior Center and volunteered in the library. She excelled at memorizing numbers, spelling and grammar. Even at 80+ years old she could recite phone numbers from memory, spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and correct your grammar. She took piano lessons when she was in her 50s. Shirley was a longtime member of Fallston United Methodist Church and a member of the choir.
Shirley retired in 2001 and traveled with her husband around the world to places like Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Canada, and Ireland. She also visited most every state in the United States including Hawaii.
She will be dearly missed by all.
