Sharon "Sherry" Lee Mackenzie

Sharon (Sherry) Lee MacKenzie passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on January 16, 2021. Her husband of 34 years, Phil MacKenzie was by her side.

Sherry was loved and adored by all that knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her wonderful family. Sherry enjoyed many things in life, but she mostly enjoyed helping others and being a blessing to those in need. Her faith in God is strong and her family mourns her loss but celebrates her final victory over cancer and being embraced by the Lord into His kingdom.

Sherry was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1947 to Thomas Leonard Cormack Jr. and Margret E. Bayne. She grew up in the Parkview area on Oakleigh Road and graduated from Parkville High School. Her most exciting teenage event was to see the Beatles with her younger sister Nancy when they came to Baltimore in 1964. She had many fond memories of spending time with numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and taking family vacations to Ocean City while growing up. Sherry attended a few semesters of college at Towson State University and enjoyed a successful career as a restaurant manager for Friendly Ice Cream and Golden Corral restaurants. She retired in 2014 to become a full-time health care provider to her father at her home in Churchville, Maryland. Though retired, Sherry still maintained one or two days a week doing HR work for the Golden Corral in Aberdeen, Maryland until 2017.

Sherry enjoyed traveling vacations, cruises, and trips to Disneyland with her sons and grandchildren. She liked the beach and she enjoyed spending time with her best friends Beth and Rick from Virginia while sailing and camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren playing Phase 10, making cookies, shopping, and creating memories.

Sherry is survived by her older brother Thomas Leonard Cormack III (wife Patty) of Raleigh, NC and her younger sister Nancy Lynn Cormack Hett (husband Allen) of Parkton, MD. Sherry has two wonderful sons, Thomas Ellwood Lavin III (wife Ann Marie) of Fawn Grove, PA and Michael Patrick Lavin (wife Khrissy) of Delta, PA. Sherry's most prized moments in her life were with her grandchildren Ashley Nicole Lavin and Chloe Mairyn Lavin from her son Tom and Taylor Danielle Lavin and Michael Patrick Lavin Jr from her son Michael.

A private service will be held for the immediate family and invited guests. However, in the spring/ early summer, the family will be hosting a celebration of life.

Sherry was a member of and attended the New Covenant Community Church in Delta, PA with her son Tom and family. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to the New Covenant Community Church, 284 Slab Rd, Delta, PA 17314
