Shannon Darnell Canami, age 31, of Baltimore, MD, died on March 26, 2011 at her home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, she is the daughter of James Louis and Mary Angalene Adkins Canami of Bel Air, MD. From the age of 6-18, she was a gymnast with the ACPR Gymnastics in Churchville, and was a State Floor Champion and Regional Beam Champion. She was also a gymnastics coach with ACPR. A resident of Harford County, until moving to Baltimore City approximately four years ago, she was a 1998 graduate of Harford Technical High School, where she was Class Valedictorian, Senior Class President, and graduated with Honors. Also a 2011 Honors Graduate from Towson University with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, she was currently a student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where she was studying for her Masters, and was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society.
She was the recipient of many awards which included: Nike Outstanding Student Award, Judith Resnick Award for Math and Science, Senior Class President Award, National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars, Math/Science Award, Trade Excellence Award for Agribusiness/Animal Science, National FFA Achievement Award, Governor's Superfit Award for Excellence in Physical Fitness, Excellence in Drama-Acting, Outstanding Achievement-Yearbook Editor, AP Calculus Award for Straight A's, Merritt Scholarship Award-State of Maryland Project where she was top 5% in Academic Achievement, President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement-from President Bill Clinton, and the Outstanding Acheivement in Social Studies.
She was employed, for about ten years, at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Svredrop/Jacobs Engineering Company, and Aberdeen Test Center.
She had a variety of hobbies which included, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, gymnastics, surfing, roller blading, rock climbing, swimming, skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, theatre and art. She enjoyed her two dogs and two cats, and was breeding geckos and bearded dragons, where she was working on using DNA to create designer species.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her cousin, Toniette Canami; and numerous friends and family including aunts and uncles; Margaret and Bill Wilson and their children, Justin, William, Tyrease, and Alexis, of Pasadena, MD; Anthony Canami and children, Joshua and Jessica of Bel Air, MD; Anthony Canami and children, Joshua and Jessica, of Bel Air, MD; Gary and Ann Adkins of Fredericksburg, VA; Sharon Adkins of Joppa, MD and her children, Jamie Bartel and Heather Jarvis; Glenda and David Montler of Port Deposit, MD and her children, Sherrie Williams and Seon Davis; Joey and Lori Adkins and children, Joshua and Jeremy of Colorado.
