Sgt. Maj. Charles S. Barringer, Ret. went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2010, at his home in Abingdon, MD. He was 88 years old, born on September 26, 1922 in Eldorado, AR. He enlisted in the army on June 22 of 1941. He was with the 36th infantry division during World War II, serving in Italy, Africa and France. He was wounded in August of 1944, returned to U.S. in July of 1945. He was honorably discharged in September of 1945. He reenlisted April 11, 1947 U.S. Army ordnance, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland for 20 years, serving in all, 24 years of military service. He also spent two years in Taiwan where he became fluent in the mandarin language, which was a great joy for him, and a real asset. After his military service, he took a job in Civil Service at Aberdeen Proving Ground for six years. Charles owned and operated a garage on Clayton Road in Joppa, MD. The garage was simply called, Barringer's Garage.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Edna Cochran Barringer; his parents, Edmond and Daisy Meggs Barringer; four brothers, Dave, Stanley, Frank and Talmidge Barringer; and four sisters, Lois, Betty Janell, Hattie and Evelyn.
His son, Frank Dale Barringer, his daughter-in-law, Nancy Barringer and his step granddaughter, Emily Myers survive him.
Pallbearers were Ed Zepp, Roger Cochran, Roger Broadwater, Dave Jackson, Craig Buckson and Mike Fuller.
