Sarah "Sallie" Parker

Bel Air

Sarah (Sallie) Parker 89 of Bel Air, Md passed away on July 11, 2024, at the Senator Bob Hooper House. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Holloway and Anna Estella (Smith) Taylor. A teacher, she graduated from Towson Junior College, at the time a part of Towson Teachers College, and Washington College in Chestertown in 1956. She taught at Edgewood Junior/Senior High School for five years where she met her husband, Marion “Cheese” Parker. After five years she left teaching to raise her children. After the youngest was in school she returned to substituting, which she did for 15 years. After leaving the school system, she worked for Weight Watchers for 15 years as a receptionist. 

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Emmorton and was active in all activities of the parish throughout her adult life. 

She is survived by her two sons, Frederick and William, two grandchildren Katherine and John Parker and their mother Amy Stevens, all of Bel Air. In addition, she is survived by her sister Anne Desmond, two nieces Anne Desmond (Jason Cary) and Mary Appleyard (Gregory), and a great niece Sarah and a great nephew Benjamin Appleyard, all of Peekskill, New York. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jane Bristow of Murrells Inlet, SC. 

She is predeceased by her beloved parents, her loving husband, Marion (Cheese) and her son Thomas Parker.

Sallie will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to friends, family and those in need. She was a true Harford County historian, and her stories and memories will be missed by many.
