Sarah Emily Coale Hines, age 88, of Churchville, MD passed away on March 6, 2017 in the home where she was born in 1928, with her daughter by her side. Born in Churchville on Cedarvale Farm, she was the daughter of Howard Cronin and Hannah (Bechtold) Coale and was the wife of the late Paul D. Hines. She had worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 29 years and was a member of The Retired Officers Association, Harford Choral Society, Bel Air Community Chorus and the Eastern Bison Association. She was also a longtime member of the Harford County Bird Club. She enjoyed playing tennis, listening to music, playing piano and had taught piano for several years. She raised and picked raspberries and blackberries every year and was known as the raspberry lady. She and her husband raised bison on their 57 acre farm for over 30 years. She was a 30 year member of Churchville Presbyterian Church and a former member of Smith's Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hines is survived by her children, Donald R. Hines (Wanda), Joanne Hines Sommer (Oscar), David P. Hines (Lauren) all of Churchville; grandchildren, Wendi L. Vlachos of Churchville, Dana M. Cross (Ken) of Aberdeen, Adam D. Hines (Jennie) of Churchville, Amanda L. Gaultney (Adam) of Havre de Grace and Emilie E. Nolan (Sean) of Aberdeen; great grandchildren, Alex Vlachos and Ethan Slack both of Churchville, Holden Cross, Macie Cross and Sierra Cross all of Aberdeen, and Henry Gaultney of Havre de Grace.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ennis H. Coale, Allen R. Coale, P. Franklin Coale, Vera Akehurst, Ethel Waltman, Katherine Bullock and Esther Carroll.
