Sandra Burns Barthel

Sandra Burns Barthel, age 74, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away on December 11, 2020 at her home. Born in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and raised in Churchville, she was the daughter of Joseph Verner and Ruth (Schillinger) Burns and wife of Richard Lindsay Barthel. After high school, she lived around the world as a military wife and raised four children. Upon her husband’s military retirement, she set-up residence in Forest Hill, MD for 30 years, 1988-2018. During those years, she was an active member of Centre United Methodist Church, where she served in many leadership roles. In several local communities, she was a leader among Christian women, and a mentor for those seeking to follow Christ. As a Jesus lover, she enjoyed family and friends and never met a stranger; she was friendly to everyone. In her later years, she spent a lot of time with neighbors and shut-ins at her retirement community. Sandy had a way about her, making people feel that their lives were significant.

In addition to her husband, Sandy is survived by her three sons, Richard Graham Barthel (Jennifer), Jonathan Lindsay Barthel (Celeste) and Joseph Clayton Barthel (Nicky); daughter, Caroline Barthel Stallings (Ryan); thirteen grandchildren, Erin Jarvis, Morgan Barthel, Madison Barthel, Abel Thomas-Barthel, Darla Thomas, Devon Luna, Kendell Hurst, Tristan Barthel, Seamus Barthel, Ronan Barthel, Ryan Stallings, Ruth Stallings and Henry Stallings.

A private graveside service will take place in Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
