Samuel "Sam" Boyd Fielder, Jr., age 88, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on November 22, 2021 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Darlington, Maryland, he was the son of the late Samuel Boyd and Edith Clark (Delp) Fielder and husband of Doris Finney Fielder for 25 years. Sam was married for 36 years to Lillian Ruth Fielder until her death in 1994. Sam was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father, proud veteran, Patriot, farmer, poet and Harford County man. He supported many worthwhile organizations with his leadership, his time and money. Sam served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was an active member of the National Korean War Veterans Association. Sam’s face is engraved on the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC. The Chrome Meadow Dairy Farm was established by the Fielder family and has been in operation since 1957. It was part of the Maryland Virginia Coop for over 80 years. Sam was voted Harford County Farmer of the Year. He was a Master World Champion Power Lifter mentoring many young men producing 7 National Champion Power Lifters, one World Champion, one NFL Player drafted for the Baltimore Colts, local politicians, including our Sheriff and county councilman and many men who serve their communities and churches. Sam was named Honorary Poet Laureate of Harford Country, publishing his Forgotten War poem which is displayed all over the country in military museums and in Korea. His poem written for “The Bravest People” was displayed in the oncology unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital after the death of Lillian. Sam was asked to recite poems at many distinguished events locally as well as in Washington DC and internationally. He always recited his poems from memory up until the day he died. He was a Harford County Living Treasurer in 2016.
In addition to his wife, Doris, Samuel is survived by his daughters, Jody E. Varvaris and husband John, Laurie Fielder Reeves and husband Kevin, Valerie R. Matta, and husband Guy, Yvonne L. Fonner and husband Mark; son, Sam Fielder III and wife Margie; stepdaughters, Jennifer Finney Shorr and husband Roger, Allyson Rivera; sisters, Mary Katherine Grafton, Nancy Robinson; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, and first wife. Sam was preceded in death by brothers, James Fielder and Randolph Fielder, and sister, Ruth Francis.
