Samuel S. Magness, Jr., a life-long resident of Bel Air, passed away on June 7, 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center after a long illness. Born on July 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Samuel and Helen Magness and the stepson of James Paul Clark. Sam operated Magness Florist for more than 30 years, beginning in his mother's living room then moving to a shop on Main Street, then to the rear of Turley's Bowl before locating to Baltimore Pike near Tollgate Road. Throughout the years, he provided flowers for courtships, weddings, birthdays, Mother's Day, get well wishes and funerals for hundreds of families around Harford County.
Sam is survived by two brothers, Timothy Magness of Madonna and Reed Magness and his wife Barbara of Fallston, by two sisters-in-law, Josephine Magness Murtaugh and Joanne Magness, both of Bel Air and by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Peeples and by brothers, Henry, Vernon and William Magness.
