Samuel Barranco

Samuel "Butch" Barranco, Jr., 76, of Elkhart, Indiana died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at home.

Sam was born on February 28, 1941 in Bel Air, Maryland to the late Samuel and Sarah Lou (Bishop) Barranco.

He is survived by daughters, Danette (Tim) Richmond, Elkton, MD, Deborah Coomes, Street, MD, Denise (Chris) Sealy, Whiteford, MD, and Dianna (Ric Raynor) Skrocki, Street, MD; 13 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Ann (Jake) Varble, Madison, IN, Rose Irene (George) LaRocca, Manassas, VA and brother, Vincent Michael (Pam) Barranco, Port Deposit, MD. Also surviving is his loving companion, Lenora Bradford Monteith, Elkhart, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sam proudly served in the United States Navy for five years as an aircraft mechanic. During that time, he had occasion to fly with astronaut Pete Conrad. After leaving the Navy, he worked for the federal government as an elevator mechanic. One memorable moment was riding in an elevator with President Nixon and Jimmy Durante.

Moving back to his hometown, he reconnected with his many friends from high school. He made many more friends in his businesses: Sam's Shoe Repair, Sam's Redwing Shoe Store, and Carvel Ice Cream and Bakery. He retired from the Sears store in Bel Air, MD and relocated to Indiana in 2010.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
