Samantha ''Sam'' A. Cobert

October 10, 1989 — March 7, 2008

SAMANTHA ARLINE COBERT, of Abingdon, MD, died on March 7, 2008 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She was 18. Born at USAH 130th Station Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, she was the daughter and stepdaughter of Jeffrey Dale Cobert and Anne Bernadette Lapointe, of Abingdon, MD.

She graduated from Edgewood High School in 2007 as an honor roll student. She was active in many activities, to include sports such as field hockey and lacrosse in which she lettered. During her elementary and middle school years, she had also participated in other sports such as t-ball, soccer, and softball. Her enthusiasm for sports extended to the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens, two home teams for whom she was an avid fan.

Her passions also extended into music and inspired her to play clarinet during elementary school through high school earning a high school letter. Her love for animals encouraged her to volunteer at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center and the Harford County Humane Society. She also volunteered many hours at Lorien Nursing Home in Belcamp as her career ambition was to become a registered nurse to help children with cancer.

In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by sister, Allison G. Cobert, and stepsisters, Madeline T. and Elizabeth M. Cullum, of Abingdon, MD; grandparents, Pauline Cobert of Port Orange, FL, Roxanne Gump of Edgewood, MD, Claude and Beth Lapointe of Aberdeen, MD, and numerous aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her mother, Cheryl Ann (Brendelson) Cobert, stepmother, Jennifer (Gump) Cobert, grandfathers, Samuel E. Cobert and Fred V. Gump Jr., and grandparents, Marvin and Arline Brendelson of Franklin, WI.

During her battle with leukemia, with her family by her side, constant love and support were also given by Marnie and Rick Harbach of Abingdon, MD, Nancy and Scott Richardson of White Marsh, MD, and her best friend, C. J. Harbach of Abingdon, MD. Everyone she met loved her and was touched by her kindness and compassion for life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Samantha's name to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, 1 Charles Center, 100 North Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201.
