Salvatore (Sam) LoPresti was born in New York City, NY on August 1, 1926, the son of Bennedetta and Gaetano LoPresti. He grew up in Highland Falls, NY and married Margaret-Mary Graber in 1952. He moved to Cornwall, NY in 1959 and retired to Seven Lakes, NC in 1988, and then later moved to Churchville, MD.
Sam attended Champlain College, Plattsburg, NY, graduated from Eastern School for Physicians Aids in New York City, and received his BS in Microbiology from SUNY, Albany, NY. He was employed at Letchworth Village, West Haverstraw, NY and Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall, NY. He also worked as a Microbiologist at Keller Army Hospital, U.S.M.A., West Point, NY, retiring after almost 40 years. Sam taught seminars at Mount St. Mary's, Newburgh, NY and throughout the Hudson Valley. He had been a part time employee in Microbiology at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC.
Sam has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1954; a charter and active member of the Children's Wildlife Museum in Cornwall, NY; a member of the Retired Federal Employees, the American Society of Microbiologists, and the Mycological Society of the Americas, N.C. Branch of ASM, and Sandhills Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Mr. LoPresti is survived by his son, Dr. Peter LoPresti and wife, Shari, of Churchville, MD; brothers, Michael LoPresti of St. Augustine, FL and Rosario "Sonny" LoPresti of Stoney Point, NY; two grandchildren, Kate and Olivia LoPresti of Churchville, MD; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son, James Joseph LoPresti; and brother, Frank LoPresti.
