RUTH Z. BROWN, age 75, of Bel Air, MD, died on January 19, 2007, at her home. Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Joseph and Mabel Grome Zimmerman. A Harford county resident for 50 years, she attended Bucknell University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. She then worked as a chemist at Lederle Laboratory and later Crown Cork and Seal. In 1980, she went back to school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Goucher College. She then worked for Martin Marietta as a computer programmer. She was an avid golfer at Maryland Golf and Country Club, where she won the nine hole women’s championship. She had her first hole in one at the age of seventy one. She was an artist who loved to paint water color and won awards at the Harford County Art Show. At one time she was very involved with the Girl Scouts and served in various capacities.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, whom she married in 1954, Hugh Herbert Brown of Bel Air, MD; one son, David H. Brown and his wife, Donna, of Fallston, MD; two daughters, Jean I. Brown of Bel Air, MD, and Janet B. Webster and her husband, Francis, of Radford, VA; one sister, Jean L. Frederick of Brevard, NC; and six grandchildren, Lauren M. Brown, Justin D. Brown, and Ryan D. Brown, all of Fallston, MD, and Rebekah I. Webster, Taylor R. Webster, and Ellie N. Webster, all of Radford, VA.
