Ruth Virginia Baker

RUTH VIRGINIA BAKER, age 85, of Bel Air, died in Mariner Health of Bel Air on February 23, 2005. Born in Baltimore City, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Payne and Martha Eve Corbin Smith. She worked as a cashier at Food Fair Grocery and later Pantry Pride Grocery store from which she retired in 1981. She was well known for baking and decorating cakes for family, friends and teachers. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and was a hard worker. She had formerly lived at the senior apartment building on Sunflower Drive in Bel Air. She enjoyed antiques, antique shopping and going to flea markets.

Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, Ronald S. Baker of Baltimore; one daughter, Teresa “Teri” Furst of Bel Air; three grandchildren, Tracey Leonard of Forest Hill; Anthony Furst; Christopher Furst, both of Bel Air; three great-grandchildren, Julia Leonard; Merri Leonard; and Kristen Leonard, all of Forest Hill. In addition to her parents , she was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Baker; a brother, Arthur Smith; and a sister, Doris Pruitt.
