On Saturday October 15, 2022, Ruth Mary Sheridan, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at home in Sarasota Florida. Ruth passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of ninety.
Ruth was born March 12, 1932, in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and lived in Manhattan, New York City with her father Clifford H. Owen a prominent New York attorney and her mother Ruth Mary Owen until she was eighteen. She attended the Barnard School for Girls in the late 1940’s and Bucknell University in Lewisburg Pennsylvania in the early 1950’s.
Ruth was married to Melvin James Sheridan of Johnstown Pennsylvania, a fellow alum of Bucknell University, and together they raised five children, James, Jeffrey, John, Gregory, and Kathleen.
Ruth lived with her family in Edgewood and Bel Air Maryland for most of her adult life. As soon as her youngest child was out of diapers, she began her professional career as a Registered Nurse at a number of Hospitals in Harford and Baltimore counties. Her specialty was Psychiatric Nursing, and she brought her professionalism and compassion to assist her patients during their troubling illnesses.
In her personal life, Ruth devoted much of her time to her church and friends at the U.U. Fellowship of Harford County and served as their President for a time.
Upon retirement, Ruth moved to Sarasota Florida to be near her family. Through her volunteer activities and after joining the U.U Fellowship of Sarasota she began developing new friendships and eased well into the Florida lifestyle.
In addition to her children and their spouses, Ruth is survived by four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of friends, all who have treasured her guidance and love.
Ruth will be laid to rest next to her husband and eldest son on October 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM in Bel Air Memorial Gardens at 809 Rock Springs Rd. Bel Air, Maryland 21014.
In lieu of flowers it is Ruth’s wish that donations be made to a worthy charity of your choice or to the U.U Fellowships of Harford County Maryland or to the U.U. Fellowship of Sarasota Florida.
