Ruth Ann Gragg, nee Whiteford, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Mount Pleasant, SC on January 13, 2022. She was 84 years young.
Ruth Ann, as she was lovingly referred to as by those who knew her as a child, grew up a Harford County farm girl in Norrisville. She called herself a "rose between 4 thorns," as she was the middle child between her beloved brothers - Ed and Jim (elder), Bobby and Gene (younger). A self-proclaimed tomboy, Ruth kept up with her brothers working on the farm and playing every sport she could. Ruth Ann graduated from North Harford High School in 1955, and soon after she married her husband Bill Gragg. Ruth remained a resident of Harford County until the age of 80 when she relocated to SC with her daughter, Dawn, to be closer to her granddaughter, Jessica.
Ruth was an avid reader and could often be found with her nose buried in a book. Incredibly organized, she would take "notes" on everything from her weekly agenda to the Daytona 500. Most of all, Ruth loved to be surrounded by her friends and family. To those precious few, she was one of the sassiest and sweetest ladies around. Her quick wit and famous "eyebrow" were unmatched, even after the Alzheimer's began to take its toll. But the teasing was always followed by her giggle and grin. Ruth was known to bid farewell to her loved ones with a warm "love ya, babe" or "come back anytime."
Even after the move to SC, home to Ruth was always Harford County, and more specifically "the farm" which she spoke of often and fondly.
Ruth Ann is preceded in death by her parents Dick and Etta, her two brothers Ed and Jim, son-in-law Henry, and husband Bill. She is survived by her two daughters Kim (Mark) and Dawn, two brothers Bobby and Gene, grandchildren Kyle (Kate) and Jessica (Liam), and many extended family members and friends.
The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice and loving caretaker Cecilia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ruth's memory to Crescent Hospice (Mount Pleasant, SC) or the Alzheimer's Association.
