Ruth Calary

Ruth Calary, age 96, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on August 19, 2023 at her home. Born in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of William Ellsworth Matson and Pearla Maude (Shenberger) Matson and was the wife, for 70 years, of the late Edwin Elwood Calary, Sr. Ruth was an officer in the Jarrettsville Lions Club and was a 4-H leader for 9 years. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and treasurer of the Schooner Club. She was also a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Ruth loved gardening, flowers, and canning her own vegetables. She enjoyed watching birds. She and her husband loved to boat in the Chesapeake Bay. They also loved to camp in their RV and had been across America twice, but their favorite sites were Gatlinburg, TN and Cape May, NJ. She was a huge Baltimore Orioles fan and loved keeping score of the games.

Ruth is survived by her son, Edwin Calary, Jr. (Deborah) of Jarrettsville; daughter, Ruth Ann Laye (Donald) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, David Laye, Aaron Laye, Brian Calary (Lisa) and Jennifer Thomson (Andrew); and three great-grandchildren, Leah Calary, Brandon Calary, and Rhiannon Thomson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Donald Edwin Laye.
