Russell N. Prather, a devoted resident of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2024, at the age of 77. Born and raised in Maryland, Russell was the cherished son of the late Edwin and Louise (Kahler) Prather.
Russell’s career spanned more than 35 years as an expert in body armor and ballistics at Aberdeen Proving Ground, representing the Army at numerous overseas conferences and events. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer (with an incurable slice) and a passionate Ravens, Orioles, Blue Devils, and Fighting Irish fan (merciful Father). Russell had an encyclopedic knowledge of classic movies and historical literature, and he took pride in beating his children at Jeopardy.
Russell leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his beloved son and daughter, Eric R. (Frances) Prather and Rose Grace (Mathew) Reed. Russell's siblings, Linda (Guy) Williamson, Grace (Albert) Snyder, Charles Prather, and Gregory (Deborah) Prather, and Sister in law, Patricia A Smith Prather share in the loss of their dear brother. He was also an indulgent grandfather to Thomas and Jackson Reed and doting uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Michael Prather and a sister-in-law, Janice Prather.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Russell's memory to Disabled American Veterans (

Russell will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and passions. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
