Rudolph H.C. Harman, Sr., affectionately known as “Uncle Rudy” is the son of the late Agatha Kane and William T. Harman. He was born on November 26, 1927 and departed this life on December 9, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Mary R. Harman for 72 years.
Rudolph was a self-employed truck driver for over 60 years. He retired in 2008. Rudolph lived in Harford County all his life. He was educated in the first black elementary school located on Hess Road in Fallston, Maryland. He attended the black Bel Air High School, located on Hays Street in Bel Air, Maryland.
As a young man he enlisted in the United States Army in 1944. A World War II veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1946. After serving in the Army, Rudolph married his high school sweetheart, Mary R. Jackson on August 23, 1948. From this union, four children were born.
Rudolph joined West Liberty United Methodist Church in 1948. He served as a trustee and was a member of the choir. West Liberty merged with Saint James United Methodist Church in 1986. He continued to serve faithfully.
Rudolph served as a Past Master of Deer Creek Masonic Lodge #103. He was a Past Worthy Patron, Venus Chapter #56 order of the Eastern Stars. A shrine member of Jerusalem Temple # 1. He enjoyed belonging to the drill team and bowling league of Jerusalem Temple #1. He enjoyed marching in the 4th of July parade held in Towson, Maryland and other judications.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Mary R. Harman. His four children, sons Rudolph Jr. and wife Vanessa, Arthur (predeceased) and Anthony; one daughter Barbara Harman; grandchildren: Kristine Lovett (Thomas), Rudolph Harman III, Tiana Harman, Tomisa Madry, Eliot Pearson Sr. (Tynisha); great-grandsons: Thomas Lovett 4th, Miles Lovett, Malcolm Lovett, Raheem Harman, Eliot Pearson Jr. and Tyler Mayo; great-great grandson Kason Harman. Rudolph also leaves to mourn one brother: Maceo Harman; one sister: Amanda Bosley; two sisters in law: Ruth Whye and Bertha Jackson along with extended family members: Frances Harman, Lydia Mayo and Katie Bolt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
