ROY BYRD STATON, age 76, of Belcamp, died in Harford Memorial Hospital on May 17, 2004. Born in Amherst County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Walter Loving and Lelia Petrice Gordon Staton. He had retired after 28 years of service with the U.S. Army. He was a Master Sergeant serving his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a dedicated military man and a true country gentleman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5337 of Abingdon and past Commander of Joppatowne V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, reading, and baseball games. He enjoyed attending Harford Furnace Baptist Church.
Mr. Staton is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorraine Greer Staton; one son, Ricky Edward Staton of Riley, North Carolina; one daughter, Tina Lyn Ward of Edgewood; three step-daughters, Cheryl Lorraine Wigham of Dothan, Alabama; Charlene Lorinda Smith of Edgewood; Lisa Kay Cornett of Abingdon; three sisters, Odessa Tuck of Dundalk; Vivian Ramsey of Waynesboro, Virginia; Zelma Floyd of Landover, Maryland; four grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Harry Staton; Dewey Staton; Raymond Staton; Donald Staton; two sisters, Roberta Parham; and Earnestine Coffey.
