Rose R. Campo, age 100, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on July 11, 2024.
Born in Cefalu, Italy, Rose was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Rosa (Culotta) Restivo and the beloved wife of 57 years to the late Alfred Alphonse Campo. Though her roots were in Italy, Rose and her family came to America, where she became a naturalized citizen.
Rose was knowledgeable in multiple languages. She enjoyed traveling and embarked on numerous Catholic pilgrimages across Europe, the Holy Land, the United States, Mexico, and Canada. A talented seamstress, she created beautiful clothing, drapery, bedspreads, and tablecloths, and also enjoyed knitting. Her love for growing flowers and vegetable gardens filled her home with beauty and lots of fresh produce to eat and preserve.
Rose delighted in hosting family gatherings and preparing delicious meals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attended many of their school performances. Visits weren't complete without taking her on in a game of Chinese Checkers. Rose enjoyed family trips, often going to Ocean City, MD.
A lifetime Catholic, practicing her faith was most important to Rose. She was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory for 19 years and a member of the Legion of Mary. She always attended Mass, continued to learn about the faith and shared her faith with others. This was Rose's greatest accomplishment, along with raising her family.
Rose is survived by her sisters, Josephine Gieske and Rosalie Chandler; son, John (Christi) Campo; daughters, Arleen (Fred) Watts and Marie (Gerald) Kessler; grandchildren, Andrew, Fred, and Rebecca Watts, and Scott, Ciana, and Todd Campo; and great-grandchildren, Theodore and Stanley Campo, and Sebastian Watts. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred Campo, and brothers Salvatore and Frank Restivo.
Visitation will be held under the caring guidance of the family-owned and operated McComas Family Funeral Home, Bel Air, Maryland, on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Interment will take place in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Cemetery.
