Rosalie Hunter Thompson

January 8, 1928 — April 22, 2025

Rosalie Hunter Thompson Dale, age 97, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rosalie was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred R. and Virginia (Carpenter) Hunter and sister to the late Alfred Reeves Hunter II. A long-time resident of Harford County, she was a proud and active member of the Harford County Garden Club, where she shared her love of flower arranging. She was actively involved with her seven children’s activities as they grew up here, volunteering time to help as needed. She also volunteered serving a term in the 1990s as president of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum.

Rosalie led a life full of energy, compassion, and joy. Athletic and spirited, she had a lifelong passion for sports—especially golf and tennis in her later years, both of which she played with exceptional skill and remained fiercely competitive in, into her nineties, at the St. Andrews Club, in Delray Beach, FL. Her vitality and enthusiasm extended far beyond the courts; Rosalie was truly the life of every gathering, known for her sweet nature, her kindness, and the radiant joy she brought wherever she went.

She had a deep love for music, whether listening to or singing along. The daughter of a dance teacher, she was always active on a dance floor at gatherings or parties. Throughout her life Rosalie was a devoted animal lover, making it her mission to care for every creature—whether furry, feathered, wild, or domestic. Her farm was a haven not only for beloved pets but also for the wildlife she welcomed and nurtured in her specially dedicated backyard sanctuary.

Rosalie touched the lives of many with her generosity, warmth, and boundless spirit. She was cherished deeply by her friends and family and will be remembered with immense love and admiration.

Rosalie is survived by her daughters, Virginia Chang, and Lida Lawrence, and sons, Andrew, Samuel, Alfred, Daniel, and Barton Thompson, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosalie is also survived by her stepchildren C. Thayer Cooper, Josiah Thompson, Beatrix Jakotich, Gayle Abrams, Ellen Adams, Robert Dale III, and Elizabeth Gerrard.

In addition to her parents, Rosalie was preceded in death by her husbands, Andrew Anderson Thompson II, Josiah Van Kirk Thompson II, and Robert Wade Dale II.
