Ronald Wayne Smith Sr.

January 15, 1946 — October 24, 2009

Ronald Wayne Smith Sr., age 63, of Abingdon, MD, died on October 24, 2009 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born in Willards, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence and Hilda Louise Lewis Smith. A resident of Harford County for 23 years, he started his employment with the Maryland State Police in Salisbury, and retired, after 27 ½ years of service, from the Golden Ring Barrack. A participant in Desert Storm, he retired from the Maryland National Guard, as well as, the Army Reserve and had worked as a Federal police officer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he retired as Captain. A member of Mountain Christian Church, he also volunteered with both Salisbury and Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Companies. An avid golfer, he enjoyed racquetball, coaching baseball, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed playing cards.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Roz-Smith of Abingdon, MD; son, Ronald Wayne Smith Jr. and wife, Dawn P., of Salisbury, MD; stepson, Anthony Joseph Spinnato Jr. and wife, Louise J., of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, R. Blaine Smith and wife, Ella, of Whaleyville, MD, Barry K. Smith and wife, Cathy, of Abingdon, MD, Bruce A. Smith and wife, Kelly, of Princess Anne, MD; sister, Trudy J. Lewis and husband, Robert, of Millsborough, DE, Deborah L. Mitchell and husband, Granville, of Selbyville, DE, and Christine D. Stuller and husband, Jimmy, of Elkins, NC; grandchildren, Hunter M. and Brant P. Smith, both of Salisbury, MD and Dustin A. Spinnato of Abingdon, MD; brothers–in-law, Eugene M. Roz and wife, Patricia E., of Roxboro, NC and Ronald R. Roz and wife, Claire P., of Perryman, MD; sister-in-law, Barbara R. Dukes of Pawleys Island, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
