Ronald “Ron” Carl Frazier passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 21, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Hospital in Bel Air, Maryland, at the age of 89.
Ron was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on August 25, 1935, to his loving parents Carl and Mabel Frazier. Later, after the death of his mother, he was raised by his caring stepmother Jean.
After moving to Baltimore as a child, Ron finished his high-school education at Baltimore City College in 1953 and later graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Baltimore. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman in Germany during the Korean War. He was a career employee at Bethlehem Steel where he started as a pipefitter and later worked as a General Foreman in the Iron and Brass Foundry. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he worked as the Director of Engineering at the Campbell Soup Company.
Ron was a devoted husband and father. He met his wife, Helen (Smith) Frazier, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was a patient, and she was his nurse. They were married at Helen’s childhood parish, Holy Innocents Church, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 17, 1960, and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. They started their married life in Middle River, Maryland. They later moved to Bel Air, Maryland, and then to Churchville, Maryland, where they raised their three children.
Family was important to Ron. Whether it was leading his sons’ scout troop or cheering for his kids during their football, lacrosse, and field hockey games, Ron was an active and supportive parent. He regularly volunteered at his children’s annual high-school fairs and gave presentations in their science classes. Ron also adored his seven grandchildren and was affectionally called “Pop-Pop.”
Ron instilled the values of faith and patriotism in his family. He and Helen raised their children in the Catholic faith and were members of their children’s school parishes and ultimately became members of Saint Ignatius Church in Forest Hill, Maryland. Ron’s love for his country was inspiring and reflected in his eager attendance at annual 4th of July parades where he could be seen standing with his hand held proudly over his heart for every American flag that passed by.
Ron found joy in a wide array of interests and diverse hobbies. He enjoyed collecting coins, license plates, and antique model cars, which he shared with his children and grandchildren. He spent most of his summer weekends working in his vegetable garden. Each Christmas season, Ron looked forward to setting up his favorite Lionel trains for his family to play with. He also enjoyed reading, watching military and western films, and rooting for the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Traveling the world with Helen was one of his greatest pleasures, with cherished memories of their many adventures in beautiful Bermuda.
In addition to his wife Helen, Ron is survived by his children and their spouses: Ronald and Phyllis (Engel) Frazier, Steven and Kay (Sutherland) Frazier, and Wendy (Frazier) and Jeff Heydon. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their spouses: Amy Frazier, Hannah (Frazier) and Harrison O’Keefe, Alex Frazier, Emily Heydon, Caleb Heydon, Elizabeth Heydon, and Joshua Heydon. He is further survived by his brother Douglas Frazier and Douglas’s wife Beverly Johns.
