Ronald C. Perkins

January 16, 1934 — May 5, 2015

Ronald C. Perkins, age 81, formerly of Joppa, Md, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation in Havre de Grace, MD. Ronnie was born on January 16, 1934 in Sangerville, Maine to Carle and Beatrice Perkins. In June of 1961, he met his wife Carole while she was visiting friends in Maine on her vacation. Ronnie was smitten from the moment that he met her, and after spending a few days with her, he knew that she was the only one for him. After putting her on her bus for her trip back home to Baltimore, he went straight home and wrote her a letter asking if he could come down to Maryland to see her again. When she replied yes, he wrote in his next letter that "He could have kissed the mailman when he saw that he had a letter for him from her." He traveled down to see her 2 weeks later and proposed. They spent the summer writing letters back and forth until their wedding, on September 16, 1961. Ronnie was a natural born comedian, who had a gift for making others laugh with his quick wit. Their union produced 3 beautiful children who all inherited his keen sense of humor, and there was a lot of laughter in their home.

Ronnie worked for Silber's Bakery for 17 years until the bakery closed and then he was employed by Giant Foods until his retirement. In his spare time Ronnie liked to spend time with his family, go fishing, read books, cook, browse flea markets and travel. Unfortunately Ronnie's retirement activities were cut short when he suffered a massive stroke in 1996, and from then on he lived in nursing homes, where his wife visited him daily. He spent the last 4 ½ years of his life receiving tender care from the staff at Citizens, where he lived with his wife Carole.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, Scott Perkins, who died in 2004. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carole (Gilbert) Perkins of Havre de Grace; his son, Robert Perkins, of Buford, GA; his daughter, Karen McCarter, of Harrington, DE; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Perkins of Bel Air, MD; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to help defray the cost of transporting Carole to and from the service, as she is wheelchair bound due to Multiple Sclerosis. These may be sent to P.O. Box 425, Bel Air, MD 21014.
