Roland Max Gardner, age 88, of Edgewood, passed away on July 27, 2018. Born August 3, 1929 in Pittsfield, NY, he was a graduate of Morris High School, Colgate University and the University of Baltimore Law School. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps.
For 40 years he was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as an investigator, serving in the field as well as in various supervisory capacities. He also served as an arbitrator for insurance disputes filed before the Arbitration Forum, Inc.
After retirement he began writing poetry as a hobby, with numerous poems published in various anthology series. Authoring a book of poetry he was also nominated to the International Poetry Hall of Fame.
As an avid outdoorsman, he was a member of many hunting, fishing and conservation organizations, as well as the American Legion, the Maryland State Bar Association, Maryland Troopers Association and Maryland Sheriff’s Association.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Roberta; and is survived by their five children: Lance, Eric (Marsha), William (Andra), Linda (Kenneth) and Sandra, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
