Roberta Henderson Standiford

ROBERTA HENDERSON STANDIFORD, of Havre de Grace, died November 2, 2003 in Aberdeen at her daughter’s home. She was 86.

Born September 6, 1917 at High Point in Jarrettsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of Myrtle and Harry Henderson, both deceased. She is predeceased by a brother, H. Curtis Henderson, Jr. of Fallston and a sister, Laura Henderson Walker of Baldwin, Maryland.

She graduated from Bel Air High School in 1932. Bertie, as she was called by her friends, married C. Austin Standiford, Sr. in 1942. Bertie worked at many vocations to include owning her own mercantile in Churchville, Maryland; later, she worked for the State as a toll collector on the Susquehanna Toll Bridge. Bertie retired in 1972 from the U.S. Government where she worked as a mail clerk for some 20 years.

Bertie is survived by her husband of 59 years, C. Austin Standiford, Sr. and four children. Her children, C. Austin Standiford, Jr. and his wife Ruth of Level; Jeannie Standiford Breitenbach and her husband, Francis of Havre de Grace; Norman H. Standiford and his wife, Linda of Aberdeen; and Laura Standiford of Aberdeen. Bertie is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Amy Standiford Durkin of Belcamp; Nicole Standiford Goldberg of North Carolina; Renee Standiford Diveley of Abingdon, Jennifer Baldwin Bowling of Abingdon; Evan Myers of Havre de Grace; Catherine Breitenbach of Minnesota; F. Wes Breitenbach of Arizona; Jeffrey Standiford of Havre de Grace; Vallaree Standiford of Aberdeen; Charlie Standiford of Aberdeen; Victoria Standiford of Aberdeen; and Ronnie Standiford of Aberdeen; Jeannie Lowe Rigler of Bel Air; Karen Lowe Riehl of Forest Hill; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Evan Myers, Joel Kalb, Jeffrey Standiford, Paul Durkin, Lucas Riehl, Robert Rigler, Mark Bowling, and Walter Diveley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rock Run United Methodist Church, Rock Run Road, Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078 in memory of Roberta M. Standiford.
