ROBERT ¡§BOB¡¨ ¡§R.J.¡¨ JOSEPH TOMPKINS, age 77, of Edgewood, died at his home on July 6, 2003. Born in New York City, New York, he was the son of the late Isaac Joseph and Margaret Huller Tompkins. He had retired as a U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 from Edgewood Arsenal in 1971 where he worked as an Intelligence Liaison Officer to the arsenal. He had also served his country in the U.S.Navy serving during WW II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam Conflict. He earned a bronze star. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Edgewood and a past president of the Edgewood Recreation Council in the early 1970¡¦s. He was the president of the R.J. Tompkins Company.
Mr. Tompkins is survived by his wife of 51 years in October 2003, Shirley Owens Tompkins; one son, Bob Tompkins of Belcamp; two daughters, ReneeƒVƒV Monroe of Orlando, Florida; Deborah Carroll of Bel Air; four grandchildren, Jason M. Carroll of Belcamp; Alan W. Carroll of Bel Air; Amanda R. Tompkins of Belcamp; Matthew K. Tompkins of Belcamp; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Carroll both of Belcamp. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Franz Warner Tompkins and Roy Kay Tompkins.
