Robert Charles Melhorn, Sr., age 91, of Baldwin, Maryland, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles and Fairy (Oberdier) Melhorn and the beloved husband of the late Carole “Joan” (Hoffman) Melhorn.
A proud veteran, Robert served in the U.S. Army after a brief time in the Merchant Marines. He was a self-taught junior draftsman whose talent and dedication led to the design of notable local structures, including the Bel Air Garage and the Cow Palace at the Timonium Fairgrounds.
Robert was a passionate sports fan, cheering on the Baltimore Colts, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Baltimore Orioles. He also shared his love for baseball by coaching his children and participating in the Harford County Senior Olympics. Beyond his professional and athletic achievements, Robert was a devoted family man who designed countless projects for his loved ones. He had a deep affection for his dogs, Mandy, and Jenny, who brought him great joy.
Robert’s legacy of creativity, dedication, and love for his family will be cherished always.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Deborah Melhorn Minter, Sherry Louise Melhorn, Susan Melhorn Burdette; son, Robert C. Melhorn, Jr, (wife Cheryl); grandchildren, Stephen Paul Burdette, Robert Charles Melhorn III, Jason Charles Melhorn, Eric Joseph Melhorn, Jordan Anne Nutt; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ryan Burdette, Addison Paige Nutt, Declan Lewis Burdette, Jackson Henry Burdette, Jackson Dean Nutt.
In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by sister, Louise Melhorn Warehime.
