ROBERT JAMES MCAULEY JR., COL, (USA RETIRED), age 61, of Bel Air, MD, died on January 6, 2007, at his home. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Robert James McAuley Sr. and the late Elizabeth Beatrice Trerotola McAuley. He resided in Harford County since 1993. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1968, from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, his Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy in 1973 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, and did post graduate study in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1982-1985, at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK. His certifications included Diplomat, American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (1979-present), and Certification in Nuclear Pharmacy, Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (1982-1990). His first job was as Chief, Pharmacy Service, U.S. Kirk Army Hospital, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (1969-1972). He was Director, Nuclear Pharmacy Service, at Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco, CA (1977-1982). He served as Chief, Clinical Investigation Program Division, Health Care Studies and Clinical Investigation Activity, U.S. Army Health Services Command, San Antonio, TX (1988-1990). He was a Pharmacy Consultant with the 7th Medical Command Europe and Chief, Pharmacy Service, Medical Activity, Heidelberg, Germany (1990-1993). After 24 years of active duty in the United States Army Medical Service Corps, he retired as a Colonel in 1993. For the next 7 years, he worked as a Clinical Education Consultant with Pfizer Inc. (1994 – 2001). He then worked for one year developing, implementing, and directing the Pharmacy at VetCentric Inc. in Annapolis, MD. In 2002, he worked at the Kirk Army Medical Center Pharmacy and retired as the Director of Pharmacy in May, 2006. His
Honors and Awards included U.S. Army Legion of Merit (1995), U.S. Army Surgeon General “A” Proficiency Designator in recognition of outstanding qualifications in the field of pharmacy and for the continued demonstration of exceptional professional ability (1987), U.S. Army Commendation Medal (1972), and U.S. Army National Defense Ribbon (1969). He was a member of Heidelberg Rod and Gun Club (1990-1993). He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joanne Mae Bartakovits McAuley of Bel Air, MD; one son, Robert James McAuley III and his wife Staci Lisman McAuley, of Edmond, OK; two daughters, Angela Mary McAuley of Bel Air, MD, and Melissa Ann McAuley of Wilmington, DE; and two grandchildren, Brianna Lynn McAuley and Kaitlin Mae McAuley both of OK.
