Robert H. Powers, age 86, of Joppa, MD passed away on December 24, 2012 at his home. Born in Ashland, KY, he was the son of the late Fred and Ida Jane Layne Powers. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII and the Korean War. A railroader since the age of 16, he served as the Treasurer for the Brotherhood of Railroad, Airline and Steamship Clerks. As an accountant for CSX, one of his last jobs was working up figures for the railroad's property at Camden Yards in preparation for the construction of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Bob was designated a "Kentucky Colonel" by the Governor of Kentucky. He was also very handy and resourceful, designed and built his own home in Ashland, and was into "re-purposing" before recycling became popular. A man of strong faith, he was very involved in his church, was an ordained deacon, served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the church choir.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, Lucille O. Powers; daughter , Rebecca A. Fitzgerald and husband, Carroll, 0f Havre de Grace; son, Robert T. Powers and wife, Jenny, of Towson; grandchildren, Scott Fitzgerald, Erin Weber, and Jessica, Jeremy and Jacob Kiliszewski; and great-granddaughter, Katherine Weber. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James Powers.
