Robert E. Belden

June 23, 1931 — March 5, 2006

ROBERT E. BELDEN, age 74, of Bel Air, MD, died on March 5, 2006 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Born in Coeur d’Alene, ID, he was the son of the late John Ralph and Dorothy Lane Belden. He graduated from the Auburn Academy in Auburn, WA and from Walla Walla College in College Place, WA. He was stationed at the old Edgewood Arsenal while serving in the US Army in 1957-58. He was a mechanical engineer for 41 years before retiring in 1996 from the Edgewood Area of the Aberdeen Proving Ground, after working on chemical munitions, riot control items and smoke generators. Mr. Belden was a charter member of the Abingdon Elks lodge, and had been a season ticket holder for the Baltimore Colts. His family said that he enjoyed fishing, travel and spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the love of his life. He also enjoyed gathering with his retired friends as a member of the “lunch bunch.”

Mr. Belden is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann Marie Blake Belden of Bel Air, MD; two sons, Brian Sewell Belden, and his wife, Shirley, of Myakka City, FL and Bruce Belden, and his wife, Michele, of Tucker, GA; one step-son, Robert Van Jolliffe, and his wife, Kimberly, of Millersville, MD; a step-daughter, Christine J. Boyce, and her husband, Edward, of Bel Air, MD; one brother, George Ralph Belden, and his wife, Alys Mae, of Post Falls, ID; and six grandchildren, April Rose Belden of Essex, MD, Katherine Marie Boyce and Samantha Nicole Boyce, both of Bel Air, MD, and Emilee Ann Jolliffe, Sydney Nicole Jolliffe and Hunter Blake Jolliffe, all of Millersville, MD.
