ROBERT “BOB” ALLEN FINTON, age 47, of Joppa, MD, died on March 8, 2006 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Jo Anne Henderson Albertsen of Baltimore, MD. He entered the US Army in 1979, and was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd US Infantry (The Old Guard). He later served with the 2nd Platoon (Caskets) and the HQ Platoon at Ft. Meyer, VA. He attended NCO school at Ft. Knox, KY and was promoted to Sergeant (E-5) in December, 1982. He was also a squad leader and New Man instructor. After leaving active duty in 1983, Mr. Finton served IN B Company, 20th Special Forces, of the Maryland National Guard until February, 1985. He received a BS degree in Zoology from Towson State University in 1987. From 1988 until 2000 he was the Supervisor of Public Programs for the Maryland Science Center, was the Education Coordinator for the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve from 2000 until 2005, and was a Naturalist for the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center in Abingdon, MD at the time of his death.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Finton is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jeannine Lorie Holdiman Finton of Joppa, MD; one son, James Marion Albert Finton of Joppa, MD; one daughter, Gillian Marie Finton of Joppa, MD; two sisters, Julie Ann Lay of Aberdeen, MD and Eowyn Morgain Albertsen of Dundalk, MD; and his step-father, Peter D. Albertsen of Baltimore, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Robert Finton Memorial Fund; 87 Haverhill Rd.; Joppa, MD 21085 for scholarship fund for James & Gillian Finton.
