Rita Mary Baranoski, age 95, passed away on September 5, 2018. Born on July 30, 1923, she was a Retiree of Wyeth Labs in 1985, after 30 years of service ; Loving daughter of the late Frank and Matilda Baranoski (nee Kolasinski); Cherished sister of the late Veronica Baranoski, the late Barbara Ebey and her late husband Herman, the late Captain John A. Baranoski, United States Air Force and his late wife Betty, the late Francis H. Baranoski and his wife E. Virginia and the late Ronald W. Baranoski and his wife the late Michael Rose; also survived by 11 Nephews and 4 Nieces and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Rita was a witty and fun loving friend and aunt to many. She lived in her childhood home in Canton, MD for 93 years until she broke her hip and moved into an assisted living facility in Bel Air, MD. She could vividly recall memories as a child even the first time she saw two cars on her street, the train that went up her street, the cost of ice from the ice man, a nickel or ten cent block, using the outhouse in her back yard, and the birth of three of her siblings in the kitchen of her house. She also had a special gift in that if she met someone once and they told her their name and birthday she would never forget the person or their birthday. Any day of the year she could recall someone she knew who was born on that day. At age 95 she was shown her 8th grade graduation class group photo and was able to recall the names and addresses of nearly all 45 persons in the photo! She began work at age 16 in the University of Maryland Hospital working 7 days a week for $10 as a nurse’s assistant cleaning bedpans and bathing children. She worked at Bethlehem Steel in support of the war effort and then Wyeth Labs from 1955 until 1985. She lived with her older sister Veronica and enjoyed traveling to meet friends throughout the US. She was an active parishioner at St. Casimir’s Church in Canton, MD for 95 years. Heaven has gained a Saint who will keep track of the angel’s birthday calendar. We will miss our Aunt Rita.
