Richard Wayne Butler

December 3, 1937 — March 17, 2005

RICHARD “WAYNE” BUTLER, age 67, of Havre de Grace, died at his home on March 17, 2005. Born in Washington, D.C. on December 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Hattie Higgins Butler. His family moved to Baltimore in the spring of 1945. At the age of 23, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 1st Armored Rifle Battalion, 48th Infantry. He served in Korea, Vietnam and Worms, Germany. He was a rifle marksman 1st class Gnr and 1st class Gnr- Tank Gn. He received an honorable discharge in April of 1965 as a SP4 E4. He met his wife and two daughters in Worms, Germany in 1963. He was married on March 12, 1964 and adopted two daughters before coming back to settle in Maryland. He had three more sons before starting his own business as a tractor trailer maintenance mechanic. His favorite hobby was collecting coins. He reestablished contact with his Battalion in the fall of 2003 through the internet. He attended an army battalion reunion in New Jersey in July 2004. He was a member of the Royal Order of Atlantic Voyageurs. He was a member of the Brotherhood of U.S. Army Veterans Association and the American Legion Post 47

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Irmtraud Butler; three sons, Richard Butler, Jr. of Germantown, MD; Kevin Butler of Havre de Grace; Allan Butler of Parkville; two daughters, Ursula Polanowski of Rosedale; Waltraut Neutze of Bel Air; one brother, Johnny Butler of Reistertown; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Polanowski and Brian Polanowski of Rosedale; Karen Brown of Abingdon; Michelle Dwojewski of Edgewood; Jerry Neutze, Jr. of Bel Air; Molly Butler; Macie Butler, both of Parkville; Austin Butler of Belcamp; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nephew, Gary Moore of Martinsburg, West Virginia; a niece, Melody Moore; and a nephew Herbert Keller and his wife, Sitt Keller and their daughter, Nicole Gunder of Worms, Germany.
