Richard Peters, age 93, of Clermont, Florida passed away peacefully on October 31, 2021. Richard, known to many as Dick or Pete, was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928, He was the son of Evelyn and Mable Peters and husband of the late Martha Catherine Peters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War from 1951-1954 on the USS Antietam. After his military service ended, he settled into food sales where he sold various wholesale food items to restaurants in the Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC areas.
Those who remember Richard, will remember him as a generous man who loved Jesus and would tell anyone who would listen that Jesus loved them too. He was quick to lend a hand, offering room and board to those in need and volunteering his time and money when it was needed. But by far, his favorite way to bless someone was with food. Whether he was taking you to his favorite restaurant or firing up the grill for his hand cut steaks and Martha’s home-grown salad fixings you knew you were in for a night of laughter and fun! Dick and Martha eventually merged this passion for food into church ministry. In the 1980’s they found themselves feeding up to 200 people every Wednesday at the Tabernacle Church in Laurel, Md. He continued his kitchen ministry well into retirement, serving churches in Cape Coral and Clermont Fl, finally putting his apron down at age 80. However, he never stopped taking people out to eat. His favorite question, “You want to grab lunch at Texas Roadhouse?!”
He is survived by his sons, Jim Peters and John Willing Peters; and daughters, June DiFonzo and JoAnne Zeise. His legacy continues in his 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
