RICHARD JOSEPH LENTINI, age 67, of Abingdon, Maryland, passed away suddenly at St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, Maryland, on June 8, 2007. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph James and Lillian Liberis Lentini.
Mr. Lentini enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served his country honorably for 23 years, to include two tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations during his career, to include the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. While stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, he met his soul mate, Barbara, and the two were married on December 24, 1966. After his military retirement, he worked for Computer Sciences Corporation and Pulse Electronics.
Mr. Lentini enjoyed the many things life offered him. His family meant the world to him and ensuring the family was happy and well was his top priority. The years of support and comfort he provided for his wife in her battle with illness; the fun and heartwarming times and special father daughter moments he shared with his daughter; and the bonding and strengthening moments he shared with his son were his trademarks. He was a life long league bowler and golfer, and spent many years umpiring for softball leagues. He shared his love of bowling and golfing with his son and served as coach of his son’s little league baseball teams for many years. One of Rick’s greatest passions was cooking. His homemade spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna were requested by many and known to cure any ailment.
Mr. Lentini is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Barbara A. Ball Lentini; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph W. and Alicia M. Lentini of Springfield, VA; a daughter, Michelle R. Lentini of Fairfax, VA; two precious granddaughters who were the light of his life, Isabella and Delaney Lentini, both of Springfield, VA; three brothers, Paul Pavone of Shrewsbury, MA, Luigi Litterio of Springfield, VA, and Conrad Tuza of Charleston, SC; as well as a host of loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lentini is preceded in death by his younger brother, Gary Francis Lentini.
