Richard Lee Hancock, Sr., age 91, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on January 21, 2024, at Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Eshman) Hancock and the devoted husband of Betty Hancock for 69 years. Richard was a dedicated member of FOP Lodge FPO3. After a remarkable career, he retired in 1992 as a Sergeant after 38 years of service as a Baltimore City Police Officer, notably serving in the Northeast Precinct. Following his retirement, Richard worked as a security guard for Orioles and Ravens games for 17 years. He was not only committed to his community but also passionate about his work.
Richard found joy in various activities, particularly playing cards, and engaging in competitive ping-pong matches. His zest for life and love for his family were evident in every aspect of his being.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hancock, and their two sons, Richard (Barbara) Lee Hancock, Jr. and Craig (Brenda) Hancock. He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Jessica (Darren) Yingling, Holly Hancock and her fiancé, Chris Smith, Luke (Jessica) Hancock, Christina (Michael) Harding, Noah, and Hannah Hancock. His great-grandchildren, Brixton & Lennox Yingling, Grady, Coleson & Wrenly Smith, Maisie & Sage Hancock, Briar & Reeve Harding, will carry forward the memories of their cherished patriarch.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his grandchild, Sarah Hancock, brother Charles Taylor, Jr., and sister, Dorothy Sherman.
