Richard H. Sward

Richard H. Sward, age 90, of Whiteford, MD, died on October 12, 2010 at Hart Heritage Estates in Street, MD. Born in 1920 in Hälsingland, Sweden, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Margaret F. Sward, and husband of the late Gene Bergquist Sward.

Mr. Sward is survived by his son, Richard K. Sward and wife, Andrea, of Quinton, VA; daughters, Ronni S. Casey and husband, Ed, of Whiteford, MD and Michelle Angel-Wilde and husband, David, of Lucas, TX; sister, Nancy S. Carlson and husband, John Y., of Jamestown, NY; six grandchildren, Deborah Sward of Greenbelt, MD, Rebecca Sward of Richmond, VA, Zachary Casey of Whiteford, MD, Shannon Deys of Macedon, NY, Shane Casey of Rochester, NY, and Joshua Wilde of Lucas, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Meghan Deys of Macedon, NY, Carter Lanham of Ashland, NH and Makayla Casey of Rochester, NY.

Mr. Sward served in the 364th Air Service Group of the United States Army in the Western Pacific during World War II. He received his Bachelors Degree from Fredonia State Teachers College and his Master's Degree from New York University. He was an educator and athletic coach, beginning his career in Bemus Point and Jamestown, NY and retiring from the East Meadow Public Schools in Long Island, NY.
