Richard George Barkkume, age 83, of Forest Hill, MD, died on October 5, 2009 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Marion Barkkume. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII in the South Pacific for 2 ½ years, on the U.S.S. Vincennes CL-64. A member of the VFW in South Plainfield, NJ, he also belonged to the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus, in Bel Air, and St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He loved parties and people, was an enthusiastic sports fan, and enjoyed Florida and the beach.
Mr. Barkkume is survived by his wife of 63 years, Olga Kladzan Barkkume, of Forest Hill, MD; son, Richard Michael Barkkume and wife, Terry, of Dacula, GA; daughter, Linda Marion Kilduff and husband, Chris, of White Hall, MD; brother, Allen Barkkume of Carteret, NJ; five grandchildren, Richard and Matthew Barkkume, Rebecca Swansiger, Eric DeArmon, and Patrick Kilduff; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald Barkkume.
