Maria “Ria” Van Zuylen, 65, returned to her heavenly home, on August 30, 2020, after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Born, on April 7,1955, in Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa, Ria was the daughter to the late Danie and Hester Erasmus, a rancher and a homemaker, respectively. Ria loved praising her Lord and she was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support, from an early age.
On December 15,1979, Ria married her best friend, Hendrik Van Zuylen, in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. Together they were blessed with three children, whom she dedicated to God, from the very beginning, and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospel. Her family was one of her greatest accomplishments. Ria was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and loving friend to many.
In addition to her husband, Ria is survived by her son, Anton (Paulina) Hendrik Van Zuylen; two daughters, Izelle Van Zuylen and Esmarie (Sebastian) Faessler; grandchild, Mia Faessler; and two brothers, Danie and Thinus Erasmus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Maria Van Zuylen’s name, to the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 128 St. Mary’s Church Road, Abingdon, MD 21009 or by visiting www.ncpres.org, if desired.
