Rev. Wilbur Thomas Schuessler

March 3, 1932 — October 15, 2016

Reverend Wilbur Thomas Schuessler crossed Heaven's Finish Line in victory on October 15, 2016 from the earthly location of Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL where he had been living for the last nine months.

Born March 3, 1932 in Chicago, IL where he lived until departing for Bible College. Son of the late Emil and Lillian Schuessler and predeceased by brothers, Emil Schuessler, Jr., James Schuessler and sister, Lillian (Schuessler) Sisson, as well as beloved wife K. Ellen (Clark) Schuessler. Survived by son, David Paul Schuessler and wife, Louise, of Lakeland, FL and son, Stephen Mark Schuessler and wife Lisa, as well as grandsons, Justin and Cameron Schuessler, of Edgewood, MD. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Rev. Schuessler was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for over sixty years. He pastored numerous congregations where he was known as a kind and compassionate shepherd beloved by all. One of his greatest passions in life was studying, preaching and teaching God's Word. In his latter years, he was actively involved in his son Steve's church, Edgewood Assembly of God. He was warmly welcomed and embraced by its congregation, and he joyfully supported the ministry there. His greatest joy in life was being a nurturing husband to his precious wife of 47 years, and an exemplary father to his two sons. His two grandsons were his pride and joy, and he was thrilled to be able to attend many of their school and church activities.

Rev. Schuessler enjoyed travel and exploring caves and caverns. He wrote prose and poetry, loved history and was passionately patriotic. As an avid sports fan, hailing from Chicago, he enthusiastically cheered for his White Sox, Bears and Bulls.

The viewing will be on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m. both in the main sanctuary of Edgewood Assembly of God, 803 Edgewood Road, Edgewood, MD 21040. Officiants will be Rev. Kenneth Burtram, Rev. David Nichols, and Rev. Tracy Stanley. A luncheon will be provided for everyone in attendance immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that financial contributions be made to Edgewood Assembly of God.
