REV. LEWIS F. COLE, JR., age 79, of Bel Air, MD, died on August 11, 2006 at the Lorien Bel Air Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Utica, NY, he was the son of the late Lewis Furbeck Cole, Sr. and the late Natalie Olmstead Holcomb Cole. He was an Episcopal Minister who served at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bel Air from 1957 until 1976. He loved people and visiting his congregation. After leaving Emmanuel Episcopal Church, he served as a drug and alcohol counselor on Martha’s Vineyard from 1977 until 1988. From 1994 until 2000 he served as an interim pastor for American Baptist Churches in Massachusetts and New Jersey. He served during WWII in the US Army. Rev. Cole was a past captain of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance, a past state chaplain for the Maryland Fire Association, and a chaplain for the Maryland State Police. He also served as chairman of the Harford County Board for Social Services. For the past 13 years, he was a member of American Legion Post #39. A motorcycle enthusiast, he once rode his motorcycle up Pike’s Peak. He loved trout fishing and enjoyed woodworking.
Rev. Cole is survived by one son, Paul Lewis Cole of Bel Air, MD; two daughters, Suzanne C. Martinek and Amy J. Craven, both of Bel Air, MD; five grandchildren, Rachel Craven, Renee Desch and Paul Yosua, all of Bel Air, MD, Katie Cole of Westminster, MD and Paul Cole of Bel Air, MD; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife and dear friend Barbara T. Cole.
