1958 graduated from Woodstown High, NJ; 1992 graduated as Scientific Glassblower from Salem County Technical Institute; 1972 graduated AA Degree in Applied Science;1974 graduated BS Degree in Scientific Glassblowing Technology from Wilmington College.

Retired 1997 with 34 years service as a Dept. of Army Civilian. Worked at US Army Edgewood Arsenal in Chemical Systems Laboratory as scientific glassblower and in Director's Office as program analyst; at US Army TECOM HQS, Aberdeen Proving Ground as environmental scientist; at US Army National Guard Operating Activity Center as Chief in environmental resources branch; at National Guard Bureau, Pentagon as joint staff- program analyst, and in Office of Assistant Chief as resource manager.

Retired July 1992, Col. Biermann was a chemical officer in US Army Reserve (29+ years). Assignments included: Commander, 510 Support Group, Baltimore, MD; First US Army Liaison Officer to Adjutant General of DE; 310th Theater Army Area Command HQs, Logistics Officer, Ft. Belvior, VA; Commander, 326th Maintenance Battalion (GS), Owings Mills, MD; 97th US Army Reserve Command HQs, Comptroller Officer, Ft. George, MD; 510th Field Depot HQs, Deputy Commander; Security, Intelligence, Plans, and Training Officer; Comptroller Officer, Baltimore, MD; Commander, 300th Inventory Control Company/ Center, MD; 312th Chemical Company (Decon), Training NCO, MD. Completed US Army Basic Combat Training, Ft. Knox, KY (1963), US Army Officer Candidate School (1966), US Army Basic Chemical Officer Course (1969), US Army Advanced Chemical Officer Course (1972), Ft. McClellan, AL, Command and General Staff College (1977), Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

Hugo enjoyed being with his grandchildren at Rehoboth Beach, DE; kayaking, crab potting, and staying at the family beach house. His grandchildren were amazed at how the blue crabs turned orange when cooked.

Beloved husband of 53 years to Elaine Biermann; devoted father of Jan Christensen-Houck and husband William Houck, Kim Hollandsworth and husband William Hollandsworth; loving grandfather of Ryan Van Vliet and Ashely Serban, Bret Hollandsworth, Lauren Christensen, Blake Hollandsworth; step-grandfather of Michael Houck; great grandfather of Carter Grace Van Vliet; brother of Karin Shriner, Grace Chapman and husband Harry, Barbara Weiser and husband Robert; cousin of Karl Biermann.

Predeceased by parents Harry and Louise Biermann; grandparents Hugo and Minnie Biermann; brother-in-law Kieffer Shriner.
