REID COULSON, husband of Marjorie Crawford Coulson died at his home in Edgewood on March 14, 2005 at the age of 72 after a long illness. Born in Carroll County, Virginia in 1932, he was the sixth child and only son of the late Barney Stanford Coulson and Lucy Harris Coulson.
He attended the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore and worked at the Edgewood area of Aberdeen Proving Ground as an artist-illustrator until his disability retirement in 1987. Some of his artwork was showcased in “The Coulsons of Carroll County, Virginia” genealogy book which his family and relatives published in 2003. Reid was a direct descendent of Isaac Coulson who migrated from West Nottingham, Cecil County, MD and settled in the Crooked Creek area of Virginia about 1782. The family has traced his ancestry back to William Coulson, born in 1557 in Derbyshire, England.
Reid and his wife have been closely associated with several 7th day Sabbatarian groups in the Baltimore-Washington DC area since the 1960’s. Reid enjoyed having family Bible studies on the Sabbath and believed his greatest work was to teach his family the way of God. His article on the importance of the marriage covenant was given free of charge to those who were interested in God’s teaching concerning marriage, divorce and remarriage. As his health began to deteriorate, he and his wife communicated through the Internet with believers scattered around the world.
Reid is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie; two sons, Leslie Keith Coulson of Edgewood; Richard Mark Coulson of Joppa; a daughter, Lisa Michele Russell of Dundalk; four grandchildren, Jason Coulson of Dundalk; Ricky Coulson of Joppa; Anthony Russell of Dundalk;and Ashley Russell of Edgewood. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Gillespie of Edgewood. He was predeceased by sisters, Gloria Carter; Alene Carter; Evelyn Bullock; and Juanita Boger.
