Reginald (Reg) Allen Traband, age 91, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on July 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. Born in College Park, Maryland, he was the son of the late Carl and Thelma (Allen) Traband and the beloved husband of Marjorie Hutcheson Traband.
His professional career was marked by a notable tenure as the Senior Agricultural Extension Agent with the University of Maryland, where he served for 30 years in Harford County. Upon his retirement in 1990 he was granted the esteemed title of Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland. He served in various offices in the Maryland and National Association of County Agricultural Agents and helped start the Bel Air Farmers’ Market.
Reg served on active duty in the US Army for two years, before completing his studies in Agronomy at the University of Maryland. In addition to his academic and professional contributions, Reg was actively involved in his community, writing the Garden Line column that appeared in 3 local papers in Harford County for over 30 years. He also was one of the founding directors of the Harford County Farm Fair, and was a strong supporter of 4-H in the county. His commitment to agriculture and education had a lasting impact on many lives.
He was named a Harford County Living Treasure in 2012 and that year he was also recognized for 50+ years of service on the Bel Air Appearance and Beautification Committee.
After retiring Reg and his wife traveled extensively, having visited all 50 states, most Canadian Provinces and several international countries.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Reginald is survived by his sons, Barry (Roberta) Traband, and Mark (Annette) Traband; grandchildren, Ryan, Sara, Elizabeth and sister, Peggy (Jim Lyles) Traband. In addition to his parents, Reg was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Woodburn.
Reg was a dedicated member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bel Air, Maryland, for many years. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his church, and his community. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Services will be at Emanuel Episcopal Church, Bel Air, Maryland, on August 22nd at 11am. A reception will be held immediately following the service (approximately 12 noon) at Deer Creek Overlook at the Harford County 4-H Camp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Harford County Farm Fair, P.O. Box 22, Bel Air MD 21014
