Raymond L. Stancill Jr., age 87, of Aberdeen, MD, died on August 31, 2011 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. Born in Greenville, NC, he was the son of the late Raymond Layfatte Stancill Sr. and Daisy Mae Lewis Stancill and husband, for 52 years at the time of her passing in 2000, of the late Melba T. Snyder Stancill. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served our country during WWII. He was a self employed contractor and a member of the American Legion in Abingdon, and the Elks Club and Moose Lodge both in Havre de Grace. He enjoyed playing poker every week, boating, and gambling. He also enjoyed crabbing, fishing, hunting, and telling jokes.
Mr. Stancill is survived by his sons, Raymond T. Stancill of DE and Philip D. Stancill of Gaston, AL; daughter, Dale Gross of Aberdeen, MD; brother, Elmer Stancill of Greenville, NC; sisters, Anna Mae Joyner of Greenville, NC and Daisy Ruth Lewis of Burgaw, NC; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his daughter, Judith L. Stancill.
