RAYMOND E. HERD, Ph.D., age 70, of Joppa, MD, died on April 6, 2006 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Born in Gas City, IN, he was the son of the late Thomas Wesley and Mary Grace Crawford Herd. He was an analytical chemist for the Department of Defense, and a veteran. Known as a great supporter of youth sports, he was involved in coaching, scorekeeping and equipment maintenance. He enjoyed playing bridge at the MacPhail Senior Center, tutored local high school athletes in math, taught graduate courses at Loyola College, loved to watch sports, especially local sports, and enjoyed traveling the world. Dr. Herd’s memberships included the Starlighters Square Dance Club, Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, and the Blue Lodge in Bel Air. He was Grand Guardian and Treasurer of the International Order of Job’s Daughters.
Dr. Herd is survived by his wife, Stephanie Herd of Joppa, MD; two sons, Timothy C. Herd of Joppa, MD and David Jantzen, and his wife, Nicci, of Dundalk, MD; two daughters, Jennifer Stafford of Essex, MD and Barb McKeever, and her husband, Russ, of Cockeysville, MD; one brother, Donald Herd, and his wife, Susan, of Sacramento, CA; 8 grandchildren, Azagio Herd of Joppa, MD, Mike Sherman of Rosedale, MD, Bethannie Stafford of Lansdowne, MD, Rachell Stafford of Essex, MD, Tiffany Jantzen, Trevor Jantzen, Courtney Jantzen and Stephanie McKeever, all of Cockeysville, MD; and his ex-wife, Dorothy Herd of Timonium, MD.
