Ralph G. Daniel

September 19, 1942 — November 7, 2009

Ralph G. Daniel, age 67, of Bel Air, MD, died on November 7, 2009 at home after a long fight with cancer. Born in South Boston, VA, he was the son of the late William Jackson "Jack" Daniel and Sally Dockery Daniel. He will be greatly missed by his children, friends, and relatives.

He was a graduate of Halifax County High School and served in the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. While serving, he was involved in unloading U.S. Marines in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon returning from the Navy, he was employed by Lynchburg Foundry in Lynchburg, VA as a Timekeeper and moved into the Machinist/Mechanic Apprentice Program. He was then promoted to Western Sales Manager in Chicago, IL. In 1980, he transferred to Baltimore, MD when Lynchburg Foundry was acquired by Griffin Pipe Products. He was a District Sales Manager for the Baltimore office. He retired from Griffin after 37 years of service. He then went to work for Hughes supply of Aberdeen, MD as a Sales Representative.

He was a lifetime member of American Waterworks Association, Masonic Marshall Lodge 39, and American Legion Post 39. He was a long standing member of the Board of Directors as Associate Advisor for the Associated Utilities Contractors of MD. He was also a past member of Harford County Contractors Association. He loved sports, playing golf, watching the Baltimore Ravens, and going to dinner on Friday with friends. His greatest love was watching his children play sports for their high school and college teams.

The husband of the late Marilon Gammage Daniel is survived by a son, Bill Daniel and wife Stephanie, of Reisterstown, MD; daughter, Cynde Hendrick and husband, Paul, and their children, Chelsea and Bridget of Bel Air, MD, daughter, Gina VanDetta and husband, Eric, and their children, Joey and Matthew of Bel Air, MD, daughter, Mary Ellon Ballance and husband, Todd, and son Wheeler of Hatteras, NC. He is also survived by his brother Robert Daniel of Atlanta, GA; and companion, Judy Curry of Parkville, and her family. He was predeceased by his brother, Doug Daniel of Petersburg, VA.
