R. Bruce Allen

R. Bruce Allen, age 81, of Forest Hill, MD passed away on May 24, 2012 at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, MD. Raised in an orphanage near Frederick, Maryland, Mr. Allen was adopted by the late Luther Emory Allen in his teenage years. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 18 months on the front lines in the Korean War. Mr. Allen graduated from Towson State Teachers College and received a Masters in Counseling from Loyola University. He worked in Harford County Public Schools for 30 years, spending his early years teaching elementary and middle school, and then serving as a guidance counselor at Youth's Benefit Elementary.

Mr. Allen was an avid tennis player throughout his life. He taught tennis to dozens of children and adults in Harford County. He also loved to read, spend time outdoors, and listen to music.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elaine Z. Allen who resides at Glen Meadows Retirement Community; daughters, Leslie Allen and husband, James Brache, of Boulder, CO and Sarah Loeffler and husband, Brian, of Baltimore, MD; and grandchildren, Isabella, Leila and Phoebe Brache and Sam, Tim and Lucy Loeffler.

Services will be private.
